Silver Star Resort near Vernon offers winter enthusiasts much more than skiing and snowboarding.

As families prepare for the holidays, Silver Star Mountain Resort has launched several new experiences for 2012-13 season.

Pinheads Bowling Alley opened on Dec. 5 and offers the only ski-in ski-out ten pin bowling experience in Canada. Also at Silver Star Mountain is the ROCKSTAR Park, a ski and snowboard terrain park that has been expanded this year to 20.5 acres with the sponsorship of ROCKSTAR Energy Drink.

Also new this year is the My1Pass, Canada’s 1st all-inclusive ski pass where included free with a downhill pass, are Nordic skiing, snowshoeing, Tube Town Adventure Park and Brewer’s Skating Pond.

The Pinheads Bowling Alley is located at the FireLight Lodge, near the skating pond in the Village. Pinheads has four computerized, state of the art, modern bowling lanes which include bumper rails for the kids, 70 inch LCD screen entertainment, lighting displays and touch screen automatic scoring pads. Three lanes are available for reservation while the 4th is available on a first come first serve basis.

The Final Run Bar and Bistro, located in Pinheads, offers a new dining option at Silver Star. The Bistro features an expansive range of healthy culinary delights, sandwich bar and hot foods. Interactive LCD screens with Internet access are in every booth and for the kids there are milk shakes, floats and ice cream, while the Bar has beer on tap, exotic cocktails and local award-winning wines.

With the My1Pass, Silver Star Mountain Resort alpine day pass holders and season pass holders have access to over 3000 acres of skiable terrain and unlimited access to 16km of brand new single-track snowshoe trails that weave through the forest surrounding the village.

Silver Star Mountain started the Christmas season with its Light Up the Village festival and holiday highlights including Christmas Torch Light Parade and Fireworks, Gingerbread House Making, Christmas Carols, and Santa’s Gift Giving Sunday Family Day, Fire and Ice Cross-Country Dinner Tour.

“With so many new experiences for our guests to enjoy over the holidays, this will be the best Christmas yet at Silver Star,” said Resort’s services manager Robin Baycroft.

“The Village and resort really embrace the Christmas spirit to make the holiday magical for all our guests.”

With an upgrade to the My1Pass skiers can also access the cross-country trails offered by neighbouring Sovereign Lake Nordic Centre. For the first time ever, Silver Star is partnering with Sovereign Lake to provide a Dual Area Cross Country Trail Pass.

The combined 105-km ‘Super Trail System’ on Silver Star Mountain is now the largest groomed cross-country trail system in Western Canada and second largest in the country.

Silver Star Mountain is also offering a Nordic Ladies Only Retreat. This is a chance for women to improve cross-country skills in an unintimidating environment, with spa treatments and a cooking class included.

Silver Star was recently named “Best Ski Resort” and “Best Family Resort” in the Reader’s Choice Best of the Okanagan awards from Okanagan Life magazine.

The perfect destination for the discerning skier, Silver Star is also providing accommodation specials for the holidays. For details, visit skisilverstar.com/specials/the-spirit-of-Christmas.
